Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics 2027
Date: Jan. 25, 2027 - Jan. 29, 2027
Drawing on decades of expertise in fluid mechanics, numerical methods, and engineering simulation, this Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) lecture series offers a comprehensive gateway into the principles, methodologies, and practical tools that underpin modern CFD. The programme is designed for engineers, researchers, and graduate students seeking a solid foundation in the mathematical, physical, and computational aspects of flow simulation.
Over five intensive days, participants will progress from the fundamental governing equations of fluid flow and the properties of numerical solution methods to advanced topics such as finite volume and finite element discretization techniques, compressible and incompressible flows, mesh generation and adaptation, high-performance computing, stability and implicit time-integration methods, and turbulence modelling. The course also provides valuable insight into the practical use of both open-source and commercial CFD software tools.
Delivered by renowned specialists from academia and industry and directed by Prof. Pierre Schrooyen from VKI, the series combines theoretical rigour with practical engineering perspectives providing also insight into practical use. By connecting mathematical foundations with real-world applications, the programme equips attendees with the knowledge required to understand, assess, and effectively use CFD methods across a wide range of scientific and engineering disciplines.
Whether you are new to CFD or looking to consolidate your understanding of its core concepts, this lecture series provides an excellent opportunity to build a strong conceptual framework and gain insights into the state-of-the-art techniques that drive today's computational fluid dynamics practice.
